Clifton E. Lawrence, 66, of Carterville, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his daughter and grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 30, 2018, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home, in Carterville, with Rev. R.H. Chitwood officiating. Burial will be in McKinney Hill Cemetery in rural Carbondale. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Clifton was born on December 31, 1951, in Carbondale, to Richard and Verda (Davis) Lawrence.

He is survived by his daughter, grandsons, sisters, Marilyn Myers of Pittsburg and Kathy Maceri of Farmington, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; and close friends, Ronnie Cobb, Tom (Patty) Needham, Jerry (Janice) Crews plus many more dear friends.

Clifton was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond; sister, Sharon King; and brother-in-law, Leon Myers.

He worked as a brick layer for over 27 years for Crews Masonry in Murphysboro.

Clifton loved to dance. He taught square dancing and would frequent Fred's Dance Barn often. Clifton's passion for dancing lead him, along with Don Burris, to open up Don & Cowboy Clif's S.I. Dance Barn on Route 148.

He was a member of the Laborers' Local #943 in Pinckneyville. Clifton also belonged to the DuQuoin Saddle Club and the Eagles in Carbondale.

He enjoyed going camping and riding horses, but most of all spending time with his family.

Clifton will always be remembered for his smile and a friendly wave from his porch.
