Merle Lavern Miskimins, 86, of Ottumwa, died at 9:17 p.m. March 1, 2019 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born September 14, 1932 in Audubon County to Walter and Catherine Spoo Miskimins. He married Karen Clark on November 1, 1958 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She preceded him death April 10, 2018.

A graduate of Coon Rapids High School in 1950, he served in the U.S. Army. Merle worked 46 years for the Milwaukee Railroad, retiring as a Track Inspector in 1995. He loved reading, yardwork and spending time with his family.

Surviving is his children, Cindy (John) Armbruster of Cedar Rapids, Deb (Scott) Jones and Kenny Miskimins both of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Matthew Saylor of Cedar Rapids, Jessica (Mike) Cain and Melia (Ken) Mura both of Ottumwa and Alicia Mobley (fiancé, Andy Skinner) of Agency; seven great grandchildren, Michael Cain of Ottumwa, Alex and Macie Saylor both of Cedar Rapids, Lauren Cain, Megan Cain, Leah Mura, and Lane Mura all of Ottumwa; two brothers, Marvin (Lois) Miskimins of Omaha, NE and Gene Miskimins of Carroll.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Miskimins; a granddaughter, Christina Saylor and two brothers, Glen and Dwaine Miskimins.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Skinner officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa for Serenity Glen (Alzheimer's Unit).
