Martha Mae Wiggins Kennedy was born on February 22, 1952 in Monroeville, AL to the late Raymond Wiggins, Sr. and Allie Mae Dotson Wiggins. She made transition from her earthly home to her Heavenly home on Sunday, March 3, 2019.

At an early age, Martha confessed Christ as her personal savior and was baptized into the camp of believers at the Bethel Number Two Baptist Church in Monroeville, AL under the pastorate of Reverend E.L. Williams.

Martha received her education in the Monroe County School System-The Rosenwald Elementary School-and a 1970 graduate of the Union High School. After graduation, she matriculated at the Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. Her major was Home Economics with a minor in Early Childhood Education. Martha excelled academically causing her to become a Dean’s List student. While at A&M, Martha pledged Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. in 1972. Martha proudly received her B.S. degree in 1974.

Three days after Martha arrived on the campus of Alabama A&M University, she met the love of her life, Dexter Carl Kennedy. On July 27, 1974, Dexter and Martha were united in holy matrimony. This union was blessed with a son, Dexter Devian and a daughter, Nicole Michelle.

The Kennedy Family resided in Anniston, AL (Calhoun County) for nineteen years. While residents of Anniston, this wife and mother was employed by the Anniston City School System as a teacher. Although a teacher, there was a deep-seated entrepreneurial spirit within Martha that was ready to flourish. In 1990, she established the Handy Sew Shop, designing and sewing school cheerleader uniforms, which was the predominant request.

When the Family moved to Harvest, Martha continued in her own business pursuits (Sewing Connection) as she simultaneously managed a bridal shop named Elegant Fashions. As before, the requests poured in; this time for wedding gowns, bridal attendant dresses, dance team uniforms and garments for individuals of different cultures. Even though Martha was a seamstress by trade, she was also a gifted cook. She enjoyed preparing scrumptious dishes for those who visited her home and would even go as far as to send her nieces and nephews treats in the mail.

After having moved to the Harvest community in 1993 and visiting numerous churches, finally in 1997 after several visits to Pine Grove, God led the Kennedy Family to unite with the body of believers there. It was during the summer revival when Pastor Julius Scruggs served as the evangelist that the family made this decision under the leadership of Reverend Dave McGlathery.

Brother Kennedy became involved with the Brotherhood Organization and blended his voice with the Brotherhood Chorus. Sister Kennedy became an active member of the Christian Workers Fellowship Ministry. Sometime later, she would be elected Secretary of this group, a position she would proficiently hold for a number of years. The Kennedy children became a part of the active youth department.

In addition to her involvement in the church, her own business, and her family, she was also visibly active in the community. Martha served in Precinct 93 at Harvest, AL as a Voters Registration Clerk. Her co-workers there looked forward to the pastries she would share.

Those left to cherish precious memories of Martha include her loving and devoted husband, Dexter Kennedy and her caring son, Dexter Devian Kennedy (Ketrich), both of Harvest, AL, a loyal daughter, Nicole Reid (Matthew), Battle Creek, MI; two grandsons: Kelvaun (KJ) Kennedy and Benaiah Reid; a sister, Marie Elizabeth Burnett, two brothers: Raymond Wiggins, Jr. (Flora) and Michael Christopher Wiggins (Mary), both of Monroeville, AL; three sisters-in-law: Shelia Moody and Robin Kennedy, both of Birmingham, AL and Versie Mann (Eric) of Alabaster, AL; two brothers-in-law: Arthur C Kennedy Sr. (Dian), Kansas City, MO and Levi Kennedy (Alyce), Chicago, IL; ten nieces: Sylvia Taylor (Jimmy), Evergreen, AL, Paulette Broughton (Reginald), Mashay Wiggins, Monique Wiggins all of Monroeville, AL, Kimberlain Davis (Cleon), Kendra Kennedy, both of Kansas City, MO, Felicia Matthews (Oscar), Hoover, AL, Monica Kennedy, Birmingham, AL, Jalen Mann and Ashton Mann, both of Alabaster, AL; five nephews: Timothy Wiggins, Mobile AL, Lamar Hill (Nicole), Tuscaloosa, AL, Michael Dwayne Hill (Tara), Axis, AL, Marc Anthony Kennedy (Felicia), Suffolk, VA and Arthur C.
