Yvonne M. Thompson was born November 20, 1934, near Inola, Oklahoma, to Clyde Olen and Juanita (Lowther) Stout, and was their only child.

She was an Inola High School graduate in 1952, and received her business education from Oklahoma School of Accounting in Tulsa. While in school, she participated in basketball and bowling. On November 27, 1953, she married Earl Barkley in Claremore.

During her 50-year career, she held employment in Claremore and Tulsa, one job being with the Claremore Chamber of Commerce for ten years. She retired after fifteen years with Vintage Petroleum in Tulsa, then returned home to care for her elderly parents.

She never ventured far from the land she loved, that had been inhabited by seven generations of her family. It was owned by her parents at their death. One of her favorite pastimes was watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play Inola basketball, for some forty years. Since her retirement, she enjoyed meeting with friends and making plans to travel. She took cruises to Alaska, Greece, Hawaii, Canada, and Florida. She also toured Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, and Austria.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were most special to her. She loved to have them visit her or to go visit them. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, and the ANNA Class, as well as the Indian Women's Pocahontas Club of Claremore.

On April 17, 2012, she married Herman Lee Thompson in Inola, where they made their home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Juanita Stout, and Earl Barkley, father of her two children.

Surviving family members are husband Herman Thompson; son Clyde W. Barkley and wife Carol Ann; daughter, Cathy Day and husband Terry; grandchildren, Carl Day and wife Shay, Justin W. Barkley and wife Emily, Chrissy Marlin and husband Brian, and Andee Dickerson and husband Todd; great-grandchildren, Kylee, Saige, and Chism Day, Macy Jo and Payton Marlin, Bradford and Brady Dickerson, and Sutton Barkley. Also surviving are step-children Dave Thompson and wife Brenda, Paul Thompson and wife Debbie; grandchildren Tucker and Amanda Thompson, Taylor and Tara Thompson, Cara Dawn and Justin Guffy; and great-grandchildren Caden and Cooper Thompson and Kyle, Judah, Eliza, and Ezra Guffy.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Inola First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Claremore, Oklahoma.
