Mrs. Phebe McIlwain, aged 85 years, died suddenly Sunday morning at 12:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Wilson, 198 East Sycamore Street.
Mrs. McIlwain's illness was very brief, the aged lady suffering an attack of the grip a few days ago. Heart trouble was feared, but it was less than fifteen minutes before her death that she walked with her daughter and told her to lie down and rest herself. Mrs. Wilson did this and in a short time noticed that her mother was sleeping quietly and thought perhaps the sleep was too sound. She called once or twice and failing to get an answer went to the bedside with other members of the family and found that the sleep was that of death.
The deceased was born in the south, but moved to this state shortly after her marriage, which was more than sixty years ago. Her husband died about fifteen years ago, and for past ten or twelve years she has made her home with her daughters, Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. D. D. Boyd, in this county. Three other children, Mrs. Watkins of Olney, Illinois, and William McIlwain and Mrs. Jane Burk, of Lebanon, survive her.
Short funeral services will be held at the house Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock, after which the remains will be taken to Galveston, where other services will be conducted by Rev. T. J. Johnson. The remains will be buried by the side of those of her husband at Galveston.
