A native of Toombs County, Georgia, he was a son of Virgil Henry Burns and Mary Delilah "Lila" Williamson Burns. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and was owner of Burns Plumbing Company.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Burns was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Pettey Burns; brother, Jack Burns; and sisters, Sherley Burns, Dorothy "Dot" Tootle, and Reba Braddy.
Mr. Burns is survived by his daughters, Laurie Burns of Bluffton, SC, and Lisa Burns of Ft. Pierce; granddaughter, Ava McGoorty of Ft. Pierce; and sisters, Peggy Thompson (James), Margie Galbreath, and Betty Galbreath, all of Vidalia, GA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Burns will be laid to rest beside his wife in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Ft. Pierce. No funeral is planned. Aycock Funeral Home of Ft. Pierce is in charge of arrangements.
