Mrs. Tolbert was born in Bluefield, WV on June 29, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Claude H. and Cora Mae Thompson Johnson. A retired nurse’s assistant at Bluefield Regional Hospital, she was a loving mother. After moving to the Arrowhead Beach community of Chowan County in 1971, she had been a faithful member of Bandon Chapel Church, and had been active in the L.O.V.E. Group.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert William “Cobb” Tolbert, Sr.; a sister, Claudine Bailey and husband, Dick; a brother, Doug Johnson and wife, Joan; and a sister-in-law, Betty Johnson.
Surviving are her devoted son, Robert W. “Bill” Tolbert, Jr. and wife, Jenny, of Edenton; a brother, C.H. Johnson, Jr. of Bluefield; two granddaughters, Tammy Williams of Concord and Donnett Pennell of Edenton; a grandson, Eric Oxentine of Wilkesboro; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Bandon Chapel Church and will be conducted by Pastors Mark Nixon and Al Jarrell. The burial will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Bluefield.
