Luella was the daughter of Parsons Riley and Frances Ruby Devereaux Clark and the wife of Thomas Ross Cole I. She is my great-grandmother.
OBITUARY
After more than 80 years of a devoted and useful life Luella Clark Cole has returned home to God.
Born at Springfield, Illinois on March 19, 1853 the oldest child of Parsons and Frances Ruby Clark.
They moved to Iowa in 1853 and to Lovilia (then called Breemen) in 1857 where she spent her beautiful childhood, and received her early education, later attending school in Knoxville, Iowa, and receiving a certificate to teach: she taught in the Marion and Monroe county schools four years leaving pupils who were devoted to her throughout life.
On March 18, 1875 she was united in marriage to Thomas R. Cole to which union were born two sons, one dying in infancy, the other T. R. Cole of Lamont, Oklahoma.
For about one year she with her husband, who was in the drug business lived in Lovilia, moving to Bussey and after a short time established their home in Marysville in 1879, where they lived for about 25 years.
In 1903 they entered the hardware business in Lovilia and returned to Marysville in 1905 where they lived until they retired in 1911 moving to Knoxville; there her husband preceded her in death in 1920.
In 1930 due to age and failing health she went to live with her son in Oklahoma, where the rest of her life was happily spent until June 25, 1933.
She united with the Methodist Church in Lovilia at the age of about 10 years, living a life of devotion to her Master and of love and service to all who came in contact with her, a well informed and active member of the Womens Foreign Missionary Society serving as a District officer and having a life membership granted to both she and her husband for services rendered. She also was a member of the Womens Relief C.
Her home was a house of prayer and always the first place the minister found his welcome.
As a mother: if the world could be mothered by a woman like her 'twould be a better world.
There is left to mourn their loss, one son, Thomas Ross Cole and one Grandson, Thomas Ross Cole, of Lamont, Oklahoma; a foster daughter, Ellen Fridlington Welch of Spokane, Washington; one brother, Charles Clark of Lovilia, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Elma Green of Seattle Washington; a number of neices, nephews, cousins and many, many friends devoted to her.
