Jerry Wayne Hopper, age 83, of Mattoon passed away at 6:15 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Life’s Journey.

Private services took place at Branchside Cemetery in Gays, Illinois. Schilling Funeral Home assisted the family.

Jerry was born on July 15, 1935 in Coles County the son of Zale Wayne and Georgia Pauline (Henry) Hopper. He married Eileen Jane Overton on June 19, 1955. She preceded him in death on September 26, 2010.

Survivors include his children, Kristi Clodfelder, Kathi (Curt) Bottorff, Jerri (Les) Hall, Jodi (Ernie) Drummond, Jay (Robin) Hopper and Jeff Hopper; grandchildren, Amy Ray, Beth Laster, Ryan Bottorff, Megan McKerrow, Molly Booker, Katie Walk, Evan Drummond, Sarah Harley, Hannah Grace Hopper, Lily Hopper and Drew Hopper;10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and sons-in-law, Fred Clodfelder and John Littleton.

Jerry served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Yellow Freight after twenty-nine years of dedicated service. Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was an avid Cardinals, Nascar and Dale Earnhardt fan. Jerry will be remembered as a very giving man who loved his family. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Memorial donations in his honor may be given to the American Heart Association.
