Martha professed her faith in Jesus Christ at Trinity CME Church at the age of 11, in 1942. She met and married Willie James "Main" Washington, and to this union 10 children were born.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, 3 daughters, Lucy Cole of Kenosha, WI, Jerri Ann Washington of Hopkins Park, IL., Joanne Bivens of Kenosha, WI; five sons, Willie Washington of Hopkins Park, IL., Johnny Washington of Columbus, R. L. Washington of Kankakee, IL., and Clarence Washington and Henry Lee Washington, both of Columbus. She also leaves to cherish her memory five sisters, Carrie Summerville of Columbus, Betty Lou Eddins of Columbus, Gennie B. Johnson of New York, NY, Mariah Brown of Columbus, Ruthie Moore of Akron, OH; and one bother, Johnny B. Weatherspoon of Columbus; a host of grandchldren; great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie James Washington; sons Freddie Washington and WiIlie James Washington Jr.; grandchildren Dionne Washington, Mickey Johnson, Ricky Washington; her parents, Carrie Newman Smith and Chandler Weatherspoon; siblings Hatterina Newman, Bessie Newman, Beb Newman, Will Smith, Ollie Mae Smith, William Smith, Willie Smith, Carrie Conner, Helen Burney, Wayne Weatherspoon, Nathaniel Weatherspoon, Clarence Weatherspoon, and Tommy T. Weatherspoon.
Funeral service at Trinity Mt. Carmel C. M. E. Church. Burial in the church cemetery.
