Monica Maria Rodriguez, 55 of Wichita, Kansas died Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Monica was born October 19, 1963 in Emporia, Kansas the daughter of Lorenzo and Sofia (Torres) Rodriguez. She received her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Wichita State University. Monica worked 24 years in production at Dolly Madison Bakery in Emporia. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia, was very active with Emporia Wrestling and Newman University Wrestling, she enjoyed cooking and reading, and was considered a team mom by many. Monica loved to watch and cheer for her favorite football team the Kansas City Chiefs, and spending time with her boys, Lorenzo, Sergio and Eli. She always emphasized the importance of her time spent with them.
Monica is survived by her sons Lorenzo Serna of Wichita and Sergio Rodriguez of Emporia, grandson Eli Serna, and brothers John Rodriguez of Emporia, Raymond Rodriguez of Emporia and Manuel Rodriguez of Belton, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers Victor Rodriguez, Andrew Rodriguez, and Gabriel Rodriguez, and a sister Esperanza Rodriguez.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. Father Brandon Farrar will be the Celebrant. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited 7:00 P.M. Monday, March 4, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Monica Rodriguez Memorial Fund to be used for her grandson’s education and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
