"James RAPLEE was a native of New Jersey, as was his wife, Byer MORSE. They followed their son Stephen with the residue of the family, and settled near the Lake on Indian Run, in the neighborhood of the Shannon Mill, in 1805. Their children who were all born in New Jersey were, Andrew, Stephen, Joshua, Ezra, James, Thomas, Lucretia, Lydia, Byer, Elizabeth, Sarah and Polly. In its descendants this is the most numerous family in Yates County. The name which was at first ROBLYER, was changed by Judge Nehemiah RAPLEE, of Dundee, to its present orthography, and by common consent that is now the family name. It was of French origin."
