Burns received when her clothing caught fire from an open gate proved fatal Sunday night to Mrs. Amy House, 79, well known resident of Batesville.

Hospital representative at the Barnesville General Hospital, where she was removed for treatment in the Eberle ambulance, said that the aged lady had suffered second and third degree burns over much of her body.

Mrs. House was alone in the home at the time of the accident. Her husband, Ross House, had left the house shortly before and upon returning found his wife on the floor with all her clothes burned off.

Mrs. House was admitted to the hospital at 3:00 pm. and her death occurred eight hours later at 11:00 o'clock.

Mrs. House was a life long resident of the Batesville community, where she was a member of the Batesville Methodist church. She and her husband were married Sept. 16, 1911.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Sylvester House of Quaker City, Route 1, and several grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Harry Eberle funeral home with Rev. George Vorhies, pastor of the Batesville Methodist church, officiating. Interment was made in the Batesville cemetery.

A daughter of Sylvester and Amanda (Eagon) Renner, she was born and reared in Noble county, where she spent her entire life.

Authorities said that Mr. House had left the house to purchase a dozen eggs and he estimated he had been gone only a half hour when he returned and found his wife on the floor. She was conscious at the time and did not lapse into unconsciousness until she was admitted to the hospital.
