DEATH OF MRS. W. SCOTT LOMBARD
Mrs. W. Scott Lombard passed away at her home at South Charlestown on Sunday, February 8, after an illness of about a month. For several years her health had not been good, but her energy kept her up until this final attack.
Mary Smith was born here, October 14, 1854, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Smith (per obit, but this is wrong - many vitals records and census records prove George Smith and Clarinda Shattuck Smith are her parents). She was educated in the public schools here. On May 24, 1874, she was married to Walter Scott Lombard (per obit, but all census and vital records state Winfield, not Walter). Several years of their married life was spend in Acworth and about 11 years ago they located to South Charlestown.
She is survived by her husband who has been quite ill for several days; by four daughters, Mrs. Frank Straw and Mrs. Elroy Piper, residents here. Mrs. Edwin Mellen of East Braintree, Mass., and Mrs. Orson Nichols of Claremont, and by one son, George Lombard, who has lived at the home of his parents. There are also nine granchildren, a sister, Mrs. Henry Densmore, of this town, and a brother, Frank Smith of Boston.
The funeral was held at the home Wednesday afternoon. The burial was in the family lot in Forest Hill cemetery. The deceased was long a member of St. Luke's church.
