Randy was born November 3, 1953 in Newport Beach, California to Tomas & Sari Lucas. In 1963, he moved with his family to Grants Pass. While attending Grants Pass High School, he was part of the ski team. Randy attended Oregon State University in Corvallis before moving to Southern California where he lived with his grandfather and spent a lot of time on the Lucas Ranch in the Laguna Mountains. After returning to Grants Pass, he started his family and began a career with the sheriff's department at the Josephine County Jail and retired as a sergeant for the Josephine County Sheriff's Office. In 2007 he retired after 35 years with the department. During tough economic times and layoffs, he took jobs as a logger, bookkeeper, and truck driver.
Randy volunteered his time with school and student activities and was always involved with the community in various ways.
His hobbies included gold mining, motorcycle (Harley) riding, spending time in the outdoors – camping, hiking, hunting, sailing, and playing cribbage. He was also a Master Gardener, earned a private pilot’s license, and enjoyed flying.
He is survived by five children Thomas “Brandon” Lucas of Dickinson, North Dakota, Breanna Imel, Brian Lucas, and Brett Lucas all of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Bradley Lucas of Minot, North Dakota; his mother Sari Lucas of Grants Pass; sister Stephanie Lucas of Portland, Oregon; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Tomas Lucas.
A celebration of life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at River Valley Church. Private interment will be at Granite Hill Cemetery.
