Charles S. Fischer, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019 at his home in Billings. Charles, was born in Linton, North Dakota on Sept. 2, 1928 to Kathryn and Anton Fischer. The oldest of nine children, he grew up on the family farm in Linton, graduating high school in 1947.
He completed his electrical training program in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Charles enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1950 and married his wife Darlene George on July 28, 1951, together they had six children.
After Charles completed his military service, he began his career as an electrician. He lived and worked in Mandan, North Dakota, until following work to the East Coast in 1965. In 1974, work brought him to the Billings area where he supervised the electrical construction of Rimrock Mall. In 1975 Charles started Ace Electric in Laurel, he spent the next several years building and managing his company until his retirement in 1992. Charles was a faithful member of the IBEW for 68 years. Charles was known for his honesty, integrity and sense of humor.
Charles was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed life as evident by the sparkle in his eyes! He and Darlene were able to travel extensively and spent many years taking their grandchildren on special vacations. They also loved camping, boating and fishing with family. Charles enjoyed raising and traveling with his race horses. Faith, family and community were important to him. He was a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church, Lions Club and Gideon’s International. He was instrumental in getting Community Hope started in Laurel and spent many years serving there. Charles lived his faith each and every day. His entire family looked up to him. He set an example for each of us, and we look forward to seeing him again someday!
Charles is survived by Darlene, his wife of 67 years, sons Clay (Jane), Dwight (Donna), Corey (Suzie), John (Jodi), and daughter Lynn Albright (Tom). It was with a broken heart last May, they said goodbye to their daughter Charlene Crawford (Randy). Charles leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many other family members who will miss him dearly.
Services are planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the Laurel United Methodist Church.
