Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as First Lieutenant and Adjutant of the 2nd Pennsylvania Reserves. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia, on December 13, 1862. His citation reads "Advanced between the lines, demanded and received the surrender of the 19th Georgia Infantry and captured their battle flag". His Medal was issued on December 14, 1894. He was promoted up to Major of the regiment during his Civil War service.
