Born in McMinn County, he called Athens, TN “home.” Herman was the son of the late Horace and Oneita Thompson. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and he retired from General Motors. He was a devoted member of the Hickory Heights church of Christ.
Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Thompson; two sons, Jerry and Ricky Thompson; and three sisters, Violet Jo Cantrell, Evelyn Bohannon, and Jean Umbricht. He is survived by his only brother, Sherman L. Thompson of Gallatin, TN and multiple nieces and nephews.
The family will be at the chapel of London Funeral Home for visitation on Monday, March 4, 2019, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 6 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 11 a.m. in McMinn Memorial Gardens, in Athens, TN.
