Paonia resident, Carol Jean Garner, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 in Paonia, Colorado.

Memorial service will be held 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia, Colorado. Inturnment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Carol Jean was born November 18, 1945 to Merle and Phyllis (Mlaker) Powell in Somerset, Colorado. In Carol Jean's later years Gene Colette became a loving father figure in her life.. She attended schools in Somerset and Paonia, graduating from Paonia High School with the Class of 1964. After high school Carol went on to further her education at Mesa State.

In 1967 Carol married John Robert Gear in Grand Junction, Colorado. The couple welcomed two sons during their marriage.

In 1998 Carol married Roy Terrance Garner. The couple shared 20 years of marriage before Roy's passing in November 2018.

Carol worked for the Center of Mental Health where she was the Mental Health Coordinator.

Carol was a member of the Red Hat Society and was a longtime volunteer for the Paonia Senior Center. She enjoyed helping anybody she could, volunteering, gardening, flowers, supporting our troops, and spending quality time with her sister Sherry.

Carol is survived by her sons, John Robert Gear Jr. (Kim) of Round Rock, TX and Michael Gear (Janell) of Grand Junction, CO; her sister, Sharon Brackeen of Paonia, CO; grand children, Braydon, Jason, Justin, Evan, and Grant; her nieces and nephews, two step children and several step grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her infant daughter Hope.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paonia Senior Center.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
