Medicine Mound native son Earl Evans will be remembered at graveside services and laid to rest at the Big Valley Cemetery near Medicine Mound TX on Saturday, April 27th at 2:00 p.m. Sullivan's Funeral Home in Vernon is in charge of the service. Visitation will follow at the Downtown Medicine Mound Museum in Medicine Mound. Everyone is welcome!
Earl is the son of Walter and Katherine Bailey Evans and the grandson of pioneer families Zach and Effie Caroline Bailey and Frank and Emma Hendrix Evans. His parents, grandparents and numerous other family members are interred at Big Valley Cemetery. Earl grew up in the town of Medicine Mound where he assisted his parents in farming and with a small dairy. He attended grade school at Medicine Mound. He attended junior high school and high school in Quanah, graduating in 1958. He was active in band, FFA, 4-H Club and the Church of Christ of Medicine Mound. He attended Abilene Christian College after high school.
Earl lived in California a short time and earned his pilot's license. He worked for Oscar Meyer and for over 30 years for Hormel. Having lived in Omaha, NE, Ottumwa, IA and Maryland, he and his wife Irene retired to South Carolina. They moved back to Ottumwa in 2014. He enjoyed hunting, camping, boating as well as was an avid golfer.
Surviving is his wife Irene, 5 children, Diane Martin of Norwalk CA, Ken (Shannon) Evans of Brea, CA, Carol (Kurt) Anderson of Ottumwa, Jon (Lori) Evans of Brea, CA and Laijla Evans of Lexington KY, 13 grandchildren Danielle, Ryan, Brie, Jolie, Jake, Josh, Hannah, Lily, Caroline, Matthew, William, Kevin, and Baye; 2 great grand children Myles and Alicia.
