Died from the hotel fire that also took Herman Adams

James Williams Laid To Rest
Officials and employes of the Ontario Highways Department from the Ottawa district, along with many friends and relatives paid tribute on Sunday to James Williams, who died last Thursday in a fire at the Belmont Hotel. He was in his 60th year. The largely attended service held at the residence of his brother George M. Williams, Carleton Place, was conducted by Rev. W.F. Weegar, of St. James Anglican Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Chief mourners were his widow, Effie Williams, a step-son, Larry Stokes, of Ottawa; three brothers, Howard, Carol and George, all of Carleton Place; two sisters, Sadie, a nurse at the General Hospital in Toronto and Elsie, assistant superintendent of Ste. Anne de Bellevue Hospital. Among the hundreds of persons attending the service were; Hon. George Doucett, Ontario minister of Highways, E.A. Cash, assistant divisional engineer, W.J. Dolan, Z.E. D'Aoust, an Kirby, Ephraim Coady, Lorne Barnett, George Stedman, Wesley Robinson, Jack Wallace, Dan Woods, Norman Crowe, G.H. Allen, Ted Moffat, Harold May, Len Christmas, Jim Jameson. Also attending were large numbers of personal friends and neighbors.
