Samuel Erskine Lawson, AKA “Don’t Give a Damn Sam”, passed away at age 87 on Tuesday February 26, 2019 in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born on December 28, 1931 in Nauvoo, Alabama to Grady and Josie Lawson. He honorably served his country for 23 years and retired as a Master Sargent from the U.S. Air Force. He was a long time active member and former Commander of the Port Aransas VFW Post 8967. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking chili in chili cook-offs across Texas. He lived in Port Aransas for the past 20 years and could be found down at the Jetties every morning fishing, feeding pigeons that he claimed as his, and waving to the boats as they went out to sea.
Sam was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years Betty Jane Lawson; their daughter Samantha Lawson; parents Samuel Grady Lawson and Josie Pearl Lawson; brothers Daniel and Joel Lawson and sister Dorothy Lawson. He is survived by his loving daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
