Mr. John C. Lanier, 86 of 48 Pine Street, Chatham, Virginia departed this life on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born October 3, 1932 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late John Lanier and Mary Kate Luck Lanier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raleigh and Charlie Lanier; two sisters, Geneva and Virgie Carter; two nieces, Virgie M. Carter, Betty Jamerson and one nephew, Kevin Lanier.

Mr. Lanier was a retired employee of Kendall Lumber Company in Blairs, Virginia and was of the Baptist faith.

Those left to cherish his memories are two sisters, Mattie S. Carter of Blairs, Virginia and Minnie A. Lanier of Fort Washington, Maryland; one aunt, Minnie L. Luck of Danville, Virginia; two devoted nieces, Sharon L. Booth (Keith) and Bernice Oakes, all of Chatham, Virginia; three devoted nephews, Thomas Lanier and David Carter, both of Chatham, Virginia and Ricky Carter of Blairs, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Odella Lanier of Java, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life for Mr. Lanier will be conducted on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 12 noon at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home with Bishop William H. Tarpley, officiating and Rev. James C. Perkins, eulogist. Interment will follow in the Hill Crest Burial Park, Chatham, Virginia.
