CAMARGO — On Feb. 25, 2019, at 10:55 p.m. a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, Charles R Ellington, age 84, of Camargo, went home to be with the Lord. He was surrounded by his beloved family praying and singing hymns as he passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus.

Charlie was born March 27, 1934, near Marshall, to Ruby (St. John) Ellington and John Oliver Ellington. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force, where he worked as a meat cutter. After discharge, he worked as a professional painter, where he painted water towers all along the eastern seaboard and throughout the Midwest. It was at this time he met his wife, Ruth Ann Lannon. They just celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. She survives.

He is also survived by a son, Charles Jr. of Camargo; a daughter, Tammy Simmons of Burleson, Texas; a daughter, Amy McCollom of Villa Grove; and a son, Larry Cunningham of California. He also is survived by two sisters, Shirley Seals of Marshall and Linda Clatfelter of Marmaduke, Ark. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, including Calvin McCollom, Alex (Simmons) Tilley, Amanda McCollom, Jacoby McCollom, Joshua Simmons, Marcus McCollom, Portia McCollom, Rosa McCollom, Rudy McCollom, Gunner Ellington and Jericho Ellington. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.

After marrying Ruth, he took a position with GTE and moved to Tuscola, where he worked as a phone man until retiring in 1991. After retirement, he worked as a cable locator for Great Plains.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and loved spending time with his family. He loved the great outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He could build or do anything, from wiring a church to building a porch to constructing a windmill. He was always willing to help out any neighbor or family member that needed anything. Most of all, he loved the Lord and enjoyed listening to hymns, reading his Bible and worshipping God.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of kindness and support from so many friends and family during this difficult time. We would also like to express our thanks to Carle Hospice for their kindness and professionalism.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019, in the Joines Funeral Home, 1375 Illinois 130, Villa Grove, with Pastor Jerry Conner officiating. Burial will be in the Camargo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2019, in the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the First United Pentecostal Church of Villa Grove.
