Elizabeth Jean Hess age 76, passed away on February 25. 2019. Daughter of the late Edwin and Frances Hoffman, she is survived by her brother, James and his wife Nancy, her husband of fifty two years, John, their children: John, Ursula, and James and their spouses Tracey, Marc Sauter, and Erin as well as seven grandchildren: Beth, Madeleine, Alex, Charlie, Ben, Malcolm, and Georgia. In addition to her family, she will be missed by her friends including the “Weg Girls” and her beloved soul mate, Mary Jane Branscombe.

Born and raised in Cumberland, Maryland, she graduated from Frostburg State College and subsequently taught school in Prince Georges County Maryland. Following her marriage in 1966, she worked for the US Navy in Scotia, New York until the birth of her first child. She then devoted her time to raising her children until the youngest was safely ensconced in the Stafford County Virginia school system. Jean then returned to the classroom as a paraprofessional and delighted in working with kindergartners at Ferry Farm Elementary School. Her compassion for the plight of the less fortunate is reflected by her favorite charity, Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 15, 2019 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
