CORLISS - Lester L. Armstrong, 75, passed away Monday, February 11, 2002, at Heartland of Rainelle nursing home following a long illness. Mr. Armstrong was a member of Minnie Belle Baptist Church and a retired welder for CSX Railroad.

Born December 5, 1926, in Corliss, he was the son of the late Joseph Benjamin Armstrong (1884-1953) and Truma Effie Sevy-Armstrong (1900-1975). He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Cathleen Armstrong (Deceased); and a brother, Howard Armstrong (Deceased).

Survivors include his wife, Janet Gail McGraw-Armstrong (B. 1927) whom he married on April 24, 1949 in Landsing, Fayette County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Fayette County, WV, 1949, Page 3, Line 12, Application Date: April 19, 1949); three sons, Arnold Armstrong & wife Carol Armstrong of Clifton Forge, VA, and Waymen Armstrong & wife Wilma Armstrong, and Joe Armstrong, all of Corliss; a daughter, Marsha Armstrong-Adkins & husband Mark Adkins of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Eric Armstrong of Clifton Forge, Katherine Caldwell of Glen Wilton, VA, Rebecca Evans of Scarbro, Aaron Armstrong of Corliss, Nathan Armstrong of Hico, Joshua Armstrong of Alderson and Zachary Adkins of Fayetteville; four great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Ida Armstrong-Burr (1918-2004) of Rainelle, Ruth Elva Armstrong-Beitz (1919-2011) of Beckley, Zella Armstrong-Knapp (1924-2007) of Sam Black, Betty Armstrong-Wright of Corliss and Beatrice Armstrong-Cutlip of Rupert.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Gene Lloyd Bennett officiating. Entombment will follow in Wallace Memorial Mausoleum, Clintonville.
