Betty Ruth Shannon Blessing Dent, 78, of Hixson died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at Morning Side Assisted Living Home in Dalton, Ga.
She was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hixson and a graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School and Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing. She had a long career of nursing positions including Erlanger hospital, Memorial Hospital, Hamilton County Public Health Department, county health nurse for Hamilton County Public School System, nurse for Dawn School, and retired after years as an instructor of health occupations at Sequoyah Vocational School in Soddy-Daisy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Kenneth Edwyn Blessing; an infant son, Kenneth E. Blessing Jr.; and parents, Laney and Pearl Shannon all of Hixson.
She is survived by her second husband, William V. Dent of Huntsville, Ala.; her three daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Danny Curtis of Philadelphia, Tenn., Lana and Eric Norbury of Cohutta, Ga., and Janet and Glenn Felton of Hixson; four grandchildren, Erin, Sam and Rachel Felton and K.J. Norbury. She also is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Sue Shannon of Hixson; sister, Virginia Jo Clift Campbell of Signal Mountain; sister-in-law and husband, Donna and Bob Lewis of Huntsville, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Thelma Dent and Jane Dent of Hixson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Danny Curtis officiating.
