Selwyn Lewis Boyer, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Geneva, IL on May 29, 2007. Selwyn was born October 7, 1928 in Chicago to the late Jene and Irving Boyer. Selwyn was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Boyer.

He is survived by his brother, Burt B oyer of Westin, FL. He is also survived by his three adult children, Andrew (Beth) Boyer, Leslie (Matthew) Gilke and Rebecca (Scott) Laue. He is survived by five very dear grandchildren, Hannah Gwendolyn Boyer, Chloe Gilke, Haley Gilke, Austin Laue and Alex Laue. Selwyn was also survived by his special friend, Dorothia Epple.

Selwyn was a graduate of the Class of 1946 of Newtown High School in New York, NY. Selwyn received an honorable discharge as a Corporal from the U.S Army Medical Corps in 1954. Selwyn served in active duty in the Army of Occupation in Germany. For his service to his country he received the Good Conduct Medal, Occupation Medal, United Nations Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

Selwyn received a B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and a M.S.S.W. degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He was a member of the Alpha Delta, Journalism Fraternity, and Wisconsin Beta Chapter. N.I.M.H. Fellow, Graduate School of Social Service Administration, from the University of Chicago.

During his career Selwyn had articles published in the following publications: Social Work, Journal of Social Work Process, Home and School and Wisconsin Child Guidance in Action. He was the recipient of the Virginia Robinson Memorial award, "For New Writing in Social Work," and a 50 year member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers.

In 1966, he was nominated as a Democratic Party Candidate for the Office of Representative in Congress for the 15th Congressional District.

Selwyn's professional administrative experience included: Executive Director of Family Service, Winona, MN, Executive Director of Family Services Association, Aurora, IL, Administrative Director of Mercyville Psychiatric Hospital, Aurora, IL (Outpatient Services) and Executive Director for Bolingbrook Counseling Center with the Village of Bolingbrook, IL.

Selwyn was a past consultant with: Mercyville Institute of Mental Health in Aurora, IL, Kane County Illinois Diagnostic Center, Central DuPage Pastoral Counseling Center, Glen Ellyn and the AMOCO Corporation Employee Assistance Program (1984-1994).

Selwyn was in direct practice as a Social Worker in Milwaukee, WI, Los Angeles, CA and in Illinois. His affiliations include DCSW (NASW), Diplomat in Clinical Social Work, ACSW, Academy of Certified Social Workers, LCSW IL #149-227 Licensed Clinical Social Worker and QCSW (NASW) Qualified Clinical Social Worker. He also enjoyed serving for a time by appointment of the Elected Trustees as a nonvoting advisory member to the Library District for Geneva, IL.

Selwyn was a longtime member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, IL.

During his retirement, Selwyn completed a "Compellation of Paintings" by his father artist Irving Boyer. Selwyn was successful in placing several of his father's paintings in museums, including New York Historical Society (20th Century's Collection) churches and the Geneva Library.
