Eliza was the eldest child of Asahel and Rebecca (Landers) Thornbrue. Asahel died about 1840, probably in Coles county, Illinois. Rebecca then married, in 1842, William Yarnall.

Eliza and John Moore were married in 1847 in Coles county, Illinois, moved to Iowa (Butler/Bremer county area) in 1852 and then to Osage county, Kansas about 1868, where they died. They had ten children: John, Ruhama, Nancy, Martha, Mary, O.A. (infant), Aaron, Rhoda, Phoebe and Minnie.
