Rev. John D. Berry, 75, of Dunbar died July 22, 1998, after a long illness. He was former pastor of Samaritan and Pilgrim Home Baptist churches and served as supply pastor for Kanawha City Baptist. He was retired from C&O Railroad and John Amos Power Plant. He was a member of the Black Ministerial Association and a commissioner for the West Dunbar Public Service Commission. Surviving: wife, Mary C.; daughters, Karen Y. Penn of Rand, Julia Robyn Dudley of St. Albans, Barbara K. Marshall of Institute; brother, Oliver A. Berry; sister, Ruby M. Chappell; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Charleston, with Pastor Paul J. Gilmer officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
