The Cremains of Eugene's parents, Elmer and Mabel Sim are deposited at his grave site, and a memorial is on the reverse side of his gravestone.

Elmer's first career was as a teacher, serving several small one-room schools grades 1-12 (living in drafty teacherages and on meagre pay cheques). He made a career change in 1940, becoming a Municipal Administrator in the RM of Lac Pellitier of 33 years, while living in the village of Neville, SK, participating fully in church and community activities. Elmer was a gifted mathematician, an English language buff and a teacher in every aspect of his life. He understood the value of physical fitness before it became popular, doing pushups, cross-country skiing and continuing to walk a mile a day into his 100th year. Elmer began playing golf at the age of 50. Largely self-taught, golfing became his passion. He continued to golf at Greenbryre until his 98th year. As a man who raised his family in the 30's, he developed strength, resilience and hope that sustained him in all times.
