Robert Lee Sample passed away peacefully January 6, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Community Hospital in Anderson.

He was born September 29, 1937 in Anderson and preceded in death by his parents, Carol and Basil Sample as well as his son, Bill Sample.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jayne Ellen (Judkins) Sample, daughter, Susan Carol Sample (formerly Begley) of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, grandchildren, Stephanie Begley of Maryland, Aaron Begley, Melanie Begley and Monica Begley all of Wisconsin, his deceased son's wife, Atsuko Maruno Sample and their children, Sophia and Nikolas Sample who reside in Indianapolis.

Bob attended Anderson High School graduating in 1955. The next year, he began college at General Motor's Institute in Flint Michigan, where he became a member of the Gamma Mu Tau fraternity. He graduated with a bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 1959. In 1968, he received a Master of Science degree from Ball State University. Bob was a licensed Professional Engineer and taught evening classes in electronics at Indiana Vocational Tech. In 1976, he was instrumental in developing a Micro processed Sensing and Automatic Regulation spark-timing system which was first used in the Oldsmobile Toronado. This was a very early application of microprocessors for automobile engine performance. Bob retired from General Motors in 1999 after a 45 year career as a mechanical and process engineer.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Unity Church in Anderson on Wednesday, January 10th at 5 o'clock located at 2425 Mounds Road.
