He is preceded in death by his wife Dona Mayes of 55 years; his mother, Mary “Babe” Mayes; sisters, Pat and Betty; and son-in-law Bill Westfall.
He is survived by his three daughters, Rachel Westfall, Karen Sobanek (Ron) and Leigh Ann Clinton; 6 grandchildren: John Hulse, Gary Freeman, Delaine Renko, Tara Scarpa, Crystal Koelsch and Joseph Clinton; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters, Verna Jean and Donna Kay; and loving companion and fiancé of 10+ years, Arlene Briscoe.
John was a Member of the Cherokee Nation, Navy Corps Hospital Apprentice First Class and Pharmacist Mate, Charter Member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Business Owner. He was a wonderful provider, father, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather of 5 generations and loyal friend.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, on Friday, March 1, 2019, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM, on Saturday, March 2, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 10100 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66212, with reception following. Burial will be private for the family at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
