Larry Sloan, at the age of 97, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Brightwater Assisted Living, Myrtle Beach, SC. Larry was the son of the late Max and Anna Slonimsky, (Who came from Russia) and he was born on March 29, 1917 in New York City. He had lived in Myrtle Beach since 1952. Mr. Sloan was predeceased by his wife of almost 63 years, Sylvia (Slatas) Sloan; his parents; two brothers, Philip Slonimsky FAG#96020134 and Ben Sloane and a grandson, Andrew Wheeler. Larry was a Veteran, he served in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II. He owned several local businesses from 1953 until his retirement in 1980, most notably the former Pizza Villa restaurants in Myrtle Beach, SC; and North Myrtle Beach, SC. Larry was a Mason and volunteered with many community organizations, including Literacy Volunteers, Special Olympics and Civitans. He was a former Myrtle Beach Civitan of the Year and continued to be an active member of Civitans until recently. He was a founding member and former president of Temple Emanu-El. He was also a trained hypnotist who helped resolve issues like smoking cessation and weight loss. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Sloan and Anne Peacock and her husband, John; a son, Mark Sloan his wife, Gayle; one granddaughter, Michelle Peacock Beaber her husband, Derek, all of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandsons, Philip Kent his wife, Nagasree of Hamden, CT, Robert Peacock of Lexington Park, MD, David Sloan his wife, Thea of Baltimore, MD and John Peacock of Vienna, VA and three great grandsons; Kiran, Ajay and Vikram Kent, all of Hamden, CT. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home 910 67th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach. Interment will follow at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens, 5000 Hwy 17 South in North Myrtle Beach, SC; with military honors. Afterwards, the family will receive friends at the Rosen Center at Temple Emanu-El, 406 65th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Temple Emanu-El, 406 65th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572.
