Mary Chalice Reynolds married Lew H. Schafer on November 28, 1917, in Ottumwa, Iowa. According to her marriage record, she was the daughter of Charles and Elisabeth (Callison) Reynolds.

Mrs. Lew Schafer Dies; Ill A Year

Mrs. Lew Shafer of 210 Oakwood avenue, wife of the president of the Schafer Ice and Coal Storage Co., died at the St. Joseph hospital at 1:50 p.m. today. She was about 58 years of age.

Mrs. Schafer suffered a fractured hip a year ago and never recovered.

A native of Powersville, Mo., she came to Ottumwa in 1917 when she was married. She was the former Mary Chalice Reynolds.

Besides her husband, one son, Charles L. Schafer II, survives. Another son, Louis Henry, died in 1934.

Funeral services will be at St. Mary’s Catholic church at 9 a.m. Saturday, in charge of the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh, V.F.

Rosary services for Mrs. Lew Schafer will be held at 8 tonight at the Schafer home by St. Mary’s church members. Funeral services will be held at the home at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and a requiem mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic church, by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.M. Walsh, V.F. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. The body was removed this afternoon from the Vaughan funeral home to the Schafer home. Besides her husband and son, Mrs. Schafer is survived by her grandson, Lewis Henry Schafer.
