AGE 97 YEARS
UNITED STATES ARMY AIR CORPS VETERAN

George S. Brown, longtime South Williamsport resident, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, at UPMC Williamsport Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late George S. and Violet I. (George) Brown.

Mr. Brown was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, from 1942 through 1945. He had been stationed in Guam with the 20th Air Force, 3rd Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, Radar Division. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church at Williamsport, since 1949.

He and his late wife, the former Betty Girton, were united in marriage there on June 5, 1948. Together they shared 66 years of marriage. He was a graduate of the Warren High School, class of 1939, and the former Williamsport Commercial College.

Mr Brown had been retired from the former E. Keeler Company, supply division, after 43 years of service in 1968; he retired in 1986 from their sales department. He had been a 70-year member of Masonic Lodge 299 F&A.M. at Muncy, Pa., and a 70-year member of the AASR, Williamsport Consistory. He also had been a member of South Williamsport SunRise Kiwanis Club, and had been a former lieutenant governor of Kiwanis in Pennsylvania. George had been a volunteer with the American Red Cross, Lycoming County Chapter with the Bloodmobile for 20 years. He had also served with their Disaster Task Force and had been involved with 15 national disasters.

George is survived by his daughter, Janice Brown of South Williamsport, and his son, Lee G. (Eleanor) Brown of Fairview, Mich. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, all of Michigan. There are also eight great-granddaughters surviving. He was the last member of his generation of the family. In addition to his late parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Girton Brown, on Feb. 25, 2015. He also was preceded in death by his two sisters, Marjory (Norman) Kehrli and Marilyn (Edward) Wightman.

Private burial will be at the convenience of the family at White Hall Cemetery, White Hall, Pa. A memorial service will be held at the church, with Rev. Peter C. Wilson, his pastor, officiating at Calvary Baptist Church, 42 Washington Blvd., Williamsport. There will be no visitation and the family will provide the flowers, and respectfully decline to receive floral tributes.
