TWO RIVERS-Burton L. Sinkler, 21, 2828 11th St., Two Rivers, died at 6:50 a.m.
Saturday at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital of severe head injuries received
when he lost control of his car which crashed into a post about 75 feet outside
the city limits on Lake Shore Drive at 11:40 p.m. Friday.
His companion, Norman LeClair Jr., 20, 1918 Jackson St., Two Rivers, the only
other passenger in the 1949 model maroon sedan, escaped with lesser injuries,
sustaining a fractured clavicle in his right shoulder. He will remain confined
at the Two Rivers hospital for several days, his physician said.
Suffered Skull Injuries
Sinkler, according to the attending doctor, had sustained intracranial head
injuries, concussion, possible skull fracture and multiple lacerations to the
face.
It was the 15th fatality in Manitowoc County this year. Dr. Theodore Teitgen,
Manitowoc County coroner, said there would be no inquest.
Sinkler and LeClair, according to the local police report, were coming into the
city from the southwest when the former lost control of his automobile in heading
into Lake Shore Drive from Memorial Drive. The machine left the road, struck a
post, hurling Sinkler through the door as it turned over 197 feet from the point
where it left the highway. It finally landed about 15 feet from the water's edge
a virtual total wreck.
Passing motorists summoned Two Rivers police officers and Sgt. Herbert Pagels and
Officers Al Kopstad, Len Mraz and Richard Henrickson were dispatched to the scene.
The injured pair were removed to the local hospital in an ambulance.
