William was the son of Peter and Anna VanOrden, pioneer settlers in Hilton, NY. He married Parma native Laura Ann Leonard in Parma, NY 14 Dec, 1848. They had at least seven children together. William made his home with his son George in Morton, NY after Laura's death in 1890. William died suddenly at an Independence Day celebration at Manitou Beach in Greece NY, July 4, 1908. Buried in Parma with Laura.
