NILES — Mary Jo Kellogg, 85, left this world on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at her home at Grace Woods of Niles.

The daughter of Elmo and Juanita Denman Hicks, she was born on Aug.15, 1933, in Cortland.

Mary Jo was a 1951 graduate of Cortland High School and a 1952 graduate of Trumbull Business College.

On June 2, 1956, Mary Jo and Gordon Kellogg were united in marriage.

Mary Jo was employed by Packard Electric from 1952 to 1957. After leaving Packard Electric, she was a seamstress for many years. Later, Mary Jo was employed by the Lakeview School system, retiring in 1995.

Mary Jo was a 50-year member of the Cortland Methodist Church. Other activities included her many years on the Cortland Wednesday night women’s bowling league, bowling on the Pat’s Nu Style Team; golfing with the Tuesday morning golf league at Tamer Win; and participating with the Lakeview Band Boosters. She was a member of the Whitty Knitters and the Warren Knitting Group. In her youth, Mary Jo was active in the 4-H Sewing Club. Knitting and sewing would become a favorite pastime. She enjoyed being a leader of her daughter’s Girl Scout troop. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildrens’ and great- grandchildrens’ sporting events.

Loving memories of Mary Jo will be shared by her family, her daughter, Julie (Greg) Jamison; her son, Thomas (Patty) Kellogg; her six grandchildren, Michael (Lisa) Guesman, Chad (Tania) Stevenson, Sara Jamison, Tia (Robert) Davey, Shelby Niessner and Jake Niessner; her 10 great-grandchildren; her two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Rebecca (Ron) Gilmore.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, who passed away on June 20, 2010; her sister, Patricia Crain; and her parents.
