Gerald L. “Jerry” Alexander, 76, of Sayre, Pa., passed away with his wife by his side on Monday evening, February 18, 2019 at home following a brief illness.

He was born on September 16, 1942 in Waverly, N.Y., a son of the late Amerigo Alexander and the late Iris (Case) Kitchen.

Jerry attended S.R.U. High School in East Smithfield where he was a standout athlete and participated in basketball, track and baseball. Jerry held a state record in track. He worked various jobs throughout his life. Jerry looked forward to visits and telephone calls from his children in Tennessee. He was diligent and routine about his time spent daily in his home workout room. He enjoyed attending to the lawn care and took pleasure in transferring and repotting plants, caring for the flowers and gardening at their former country home and recently their home in town. In retirement, Jerry and Wanda enjoyed getting out shopping, lunches with her siblings and visiting at family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother Amerigo and Nancy Alexander; his mother and step-father Iris & Jesse Kitchen; and by a brother Dennis Alexander.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 24 years Wanda L. (Wilcox) Alexander at home; His children: daughter & son-in-law: Victoria Jeanne & Carson L. Bumbalough, Gallatin, Tenn.; grandson: Robert Anthony & Laura Emily Dunn, Nashville, Tenn., great-grandchildren: Joshua Jeffrey Dunn and Lee Marco Dunn; grandson: Ryan Edward & Amber Renee Dunn, Pleasantview, Tenn., great-grandchildren: Ethan Ryan Dunn, Addisyn Faith Dunn and Gavin Lee Dunn; granddaughter: Meghann Elizabeth Shipman, Gallatin, Tenn., great-grandchildren: Trever Leroy Diggs, Cherish Elizabeth Diggs, Ariel Rebecca Diggs; granddaughter: Ariel Danielle Bumbalough, Taft, Tenn., great-granddaughter: Aurora Vakoutis; granddaughter: Victoria “Rayne” Satterfield and Matthew Dean, Murfreesboro, Tenn., who are expecting on April 25, Asher Dean; grandson: Elijah Lowell and Tara Perry Bumbalough, Portland, Tenn., who are expecting on April 12, Lowell Cash. Son and daughter-in-law: Timothy Gerald Alexander and Julie Simone, LaVergne, TN; grandson: Cody Lamar Alexander, Oswego, NY; Julie’s children: Haley Chance and Phoebe Davidson. Son and daughter-in-law: Andrew Lynn & Cynthia Renee Alexander, Ashland City, Tenn. Daughter and son-in-law: Geraldean Lee & Billy Norman Wallace, Smyrna, Tenn., grandchildren: Preston Drew Wallace, great grandson Elijah Zane Wallace; granddaughter Tiffany Ann Wallace, Angelton, Texas. Brother and sister-in-law: Ronnie and Chi Alexander, Retsof, N.Y.; sister and brother-in-law: Kathy & Joe Onofre, Winter Springs, Fla.; brothers: Vern Kitchen, N.C., George Kitchen, Owego, N.Y., and by nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by Wanda’s children: Sheri A. McHenry (Edwin VanDeventer), Troy, Pa., Dana & Kathy Vinson, Athens, Pa., six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and expecting a great grandchild in April. Sister-in-laws: Eleanor (Jerry) Phillips, Virginia Bell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: George (Mary) Wilcox and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

His wishes were to go home to spend his last days with his wife Wanda and his loyal companion their dog Sparky. Jerry was blessed by a visit from his children Vickie, Tim (Julie), Andy and Deana, who were able to have valued time with him and be there when he was released and settled in at home.

A celebration of his life and a time of fellowship will be held at a later date at the convenience of his family. Arrangements were entrusted to Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Athens, Pa.
