Keith Hanson, age 76, of Mahnomen, MN, died Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at the Mahnomen Health Center, Mahnomen, MN.

Keith Richard, the son of Albert and Norma (Schleusner) Hanson, was born on December 10, 1941, in Mahnomen, MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Mahnomen, graduating with the class of 1960. Keith met Barbara Gullickson at a Mahnomen-Fertile high school football game. They both entered Moorhead State College in 1960 and were married in Fertile, MN in 1961. They made their home in Moorhead, MN, where they raised their two daughters. He spent many years working as a mechanic, mostly at night, while continuing to play an active role on the family farm. Following his father’s death in 1980, Keith moved permanently to Mahnomen to farm fulltime. Keith and Barbara started breeding Galloway beef cattle in 1968, starting with two cows and building Wild Rice Galloways into a significant herd. Keith also worked many years as a transport officer for the Mahnomen County Sheriffs Office. As his health declined, Keith rented out the farm land, but never officially retired.

With his hard work ethic, Keith’s hands were never idle. He had a mechanical mind and could fix most anything. He spent many hours repairing cars and farm machinery. In his limited free time, Keith enjoyed deer hunting. He treasured his hunting trips “up north” on his land near Togo, MN with his friends. He loved when the “kids” could come home and he enjoyed giving tractor and horse rides to the grandchildren. Keith found enjoyment reading Louis Lamour and Johnstone books, watching good John Wayne westerns, and going to auction sales.

Keith is survived by his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Sue (Richard) and Sherry; his only brother, Lowell (Joan); five grandchildren: Jessica, Jennifer, Nicole, Samuel and Alick; and four great grandchildren: Quincy, Tiah, Nevaeh, and Isabelah. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 5, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen, MN. Visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also take place at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, Sunday, November 4, 2018, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 4:30 p.m.
