Ms. Peggy Joe Clayton Woods, age 73, of Wake County, NC, departed this life Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in her residence. She was a native of Person County and a member of the Greater Cleggs Chapel Community Missionary Baptist Church in Timberlake.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James O’Daniel and Cordellia Bumpass Clayton.
She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Woods of Raleigh, NC; one daughter-in-law, Tameka Woods, also of Raleigh, NC; one son, David Clayton of Durham, NC; four sisters: Bobbie Herbin and Barbara Harris, both of Rougemont, NC, Gladys Newman of Roxboro and Bonnie Cates of Timberlake, NC; two grandchildren: Gunnery Sergeant Shawanda S. Woods, U.S. Marine Corps, stationed at Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CAL and Kristen G. Woods of Graham, NC; two great-grandchildren: Arreon Ty’Shawn Brooks-Woods and Arriyah Nicole Brooks-Woods; and a host of other additional relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 2:00pm at the Greater Clegg's Chapel Community Missionary Baptist Church, 2601 Surl-Mt. Tirzah Road, Timberlake, NC 27583 with the Rev. Chris Holeman presiding and the Rev. Louis E. Cash, pastor, providing the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from 1:00pm to 6:00pm with the family present during the last hour from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of her sister, 1755 Allen Creek Road, Rougemont, NC.
The body will lie in state in the church for one hour prior to the service.
