HAZEL M. WILSON: On February 17, 2019 our kind, sweet, beloved mother walked through the pearly gates of Heaven to meet her Savior Jesus Christ. Obviously, God was in need of a special angel. After a courageous two-week fight following a heart attack, she saw God’s outstretched hand and agreed.

Our sorrow is comforted by knowing the joy she must be experiencing today. Although she is not with us physically, she is surely in our hearts. Mom’s love and faithfulness inspired all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Among her may gifts was the love of reading, especially to children. Just ask her grandchildren about the many books given to them by mammaw. And what a talented cook! She was second to none in the kitchen. If you were to ask twenty people their favorite dish, you would get twenty different answers.

Although she would never talk about her accomplishments, she was so proud to have earned her college degree in early childhood development. She taught many years as a teacher’s aide, specializing in special needs children. Oh how she loved those kids.

Other than her love of God and her family, she also loved her church and church family. She is a lifelong member of Harman Memorial Baptist Church. Her presence will be felt there, especially with her Sunday School class, which she led.

Lastly, mom, know that your example of love, patience, and faith will live on in your children, their children and generations to come. We love you!

She was preceded in death by her mother Pauline Sims father Emmitt Swiney; brothers - Lloyd Honaker, Dale Honaker, Gary Swiney and Junior Swiney; sisters – Cassie Honaker and Debbie Powell.

Hazel is survived by her loving husband, who after many years of prayer, is also a faithful servant of God, Roger Lee Wilson. Children – eldest son, Robert Michael Wilson (Andrea), middle son, Rodney Lee Wilson (Tina), and baby boy, Ryan Alex Wilson (Kayla). Grandchildren in order of appearance: Kara Nicole, Lauren Elizabeth, Sydney Paige, Walker Reece and Rylee Autumn. Great grandchild – Brody Alexander. Brothers- Carl Honaker, Buddy Honaker, Jessie Crabtree and Eddie Honaker, all of Memphis, TN., David Swiney, Randy Swiney and Rickey Swiney all of Breaks, VA. Sisters – Phyllis Swiney of Harman, VA., Edna Moffitt of Memphis, TN., Kelsie Loar of Portage, IN., and Faye Richardson of Dickson, TN.

Serving as Pallbearers: Jessie Crabtree, Eddie Honaker, Doug Wilson, Dillon Swiney, Dalton Swiney and Kevin Lyle. Honorary Pallbearers: the men and deacons of Harman Memorial Baptist Church, mom’s Sunday School class and Clifford Swiney, giving us a hand from Heaven.

Come celebrate mom’s legacy at Harman Memorial Baptist Church. There will be a viewing February 20, from 6-8 p.m., followed by a song service. The next day February 21, at high noon we will have a service for her with Pastor Shea Shrader officiating, followed by laying her to rest at Mountain Valley Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, mom would appreciate donations to the women’s ministries of Harman Memorial Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness.
