Mr. Pury Donald Griffin, 80, died Friday (April 5, 2002) at Satilla Regional Medical Center following a lenghty illness.
He was born in Hoboken but had resided most of his life in Jesup and had been living in Waycross since 1989. He was son of the late Noah Bernice Griffin and Mary Meeks Griffin. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosa Griffin, Vannie Griffin Stone and Maude Griffin Walker; three brothers, Aaron Griffin, Everette Griffin and Homer Griffin.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was retired from ITT Rayonier in Jesup. Mr. Griffin was member of the First Baptist Church in Jesup.
The survivors include his wife, Doris Lane Griffin of Waycross; a son, Perry Donald Griffin (wife Deborah Orr Griffin) of Waycross; a daughter, Carolyn Griffin Smith (Fiancé Danny Bryant) of Blackshear; his grandchildren, Stacey Griffin Robinson (husband K.C.) of Dallas, Ga., Lori Griffin Howell (husband Matt) of Waycross, David Smith (wife Melissa Platt Smith) of Atlanta, Craig D. Cochran (wife Shannon Atkins Cochran) of Waycross; his great grandchildren, Staci Cochran, Kaitlyn Cochran and Madelyn Smith; a sister, Charlotte Griffin Wilson of Augusta; a brother, Orvin Griffin of Folkston; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in High Bluff Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Saturday night from 6 until 8 o'clock.
