A native of Carter County, he was a son of Mary Lyons Morton Stevens, Hampton, and the late John Henry Morton.
He had lived in North Carolina for the past 18 years. He was retired due to disability from the Carolina Clutch and Brake, Hickory, N.C.
He was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Mr. Morton was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Allen Morton, and a daughter, Dawn Michelle.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a daughter, Christine Grant, of Lincolnton, N.C.; his step-father, Bailey Stevens, of Hampton; five sisters, Edna Spangle and Janice Ingle, both of Vale, N.C.; Anita Feathers, of Madisonville, Tenn.; Lori Honeycutt, Hampton, and Sue Morton, of Elizabethton; two brothers, Earl Morton, of Hickory N.C. and James Morton, of Vale, N.C.; a step-brother, Larry Stevens, of Elizabethton, and a step-sister, Kathy Stevens, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
