She was the wife of a Navy man, moving from coast to coast, including a one year sojourn in Hastings, NE in a Navy Ammunition Depot. She was proud of the fact that she had two grandfathers who were Civil War Veterans. Her maternal grandfather was born in Pennsylvania and joined the Union Army Cavelary, serving at general quarters; her paternal grandfather was born in North Carolina and joined the Confederate Army at 14 years of age - he never saw his family again. He couldn't write, grandpa Sargent could read, but failing eyesight made it difficult
She served in the PTA in Bladensberg, Maryland, attended Relief Society in Monroe and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Monroe Literose Club and 4-H and was a charter member of the Monroe Senior Citizen's organization
Rayola took her first motorcyle ride with her son Pete at the age of 95.
She owned her own set of leathers and was looking forward to her special ride on her 100th birthday.
She is survived by children, John Birchie (Glenda) Weimer of Rexburg, ID, Sherry Janene Weimer of Kodiak, AK, Peter Tim (Kaye) Weimer of Monroe; six grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marjorie Calaway of Monroe. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Dorsey Calaway.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 31. Burial will be in the Monroe City Cemetery.
