Thomas Earl Vaughn
(April 4, 1941 – February 16, 2019)

Thomas Earl Vaughn, aka "Tom" or "Tommy", 77, of Cocoa, Brevard, FL passed away Saturday February 16, 2019 at
Wuesthoff Hospice House in Rockledge, FL. He was born April 4, 1941 in Ogden, IN and was the son of Eugene Wesley Vaughn and Viola Alice (Ratliff) Vaughn.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette R. (Briggs) Vaughn of Cocoa, FL; his children T. Daniel Vaughn of Anderson, IN, Christopher D. Vaughn (Nancy) of Melbourne, FL; his children from a previous marriage, Cynthia D. Bayne (Brent) of Palm Bay, FL, Caren D. Miller (Owen) of Lake Mary, FL, Franklin E. Vaughn of Melbourne, FL; his one surviving sibling Herschel H. Vaughn (Irene) of West Warrick, RI. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sean Bayne, Holly and Drew Vaughn, and Logan Miller as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Viola Vaughn; his siblings Richard E. Vaughn (Doris), Charles W. Vaughn (Jean), Morris E. Vaughn (Shirley), A. Rosella Davis (Nalvin) , and M. Rowena Ritchie (Kenneth), Son-In-Law Edward L. Bayne, Jr., and Daughter-In-Law Kathi A. (Trimble) Vaughn.

Tom joined the United States Navy right after his 16th Birthday and traveled the world as well as the United States coast to coast in his *nine years of service *(1958 - 1967). After leaving the military, he worked in construction helping to complete Disney's Magic Kingdom in Orlando, FL. And after its completion in 1971, Tom moved his family back to his home state of Indiana and eventually served his community as Town Marshall in Shirley, Indiana. Tom later worked in the manufacturing industry where he had the opportunity to assist in the creation of nylon handcuffs (which are still in use by the police force today), as well as many toys including the "Hoppity-Hop", "Clacker Balls", and the "Big Wheel".

Tom moved back to Florida after his divorce and started working at a family "Fish Camp" where he met and married Jeannette on June 5, 1976 in New Smyrna, Brevard, Florida. Tom's favorite past-time was fishing. Over the years, if he wasn't in the garden you could find him on Indian River wearing an old cowboy hat and denim bib overalls casting out his line. Whatever he caught, he ate or gave away. He was also known to try to get others to "have a try", whether it was fish, turtle, snake, gator, or hog; whatever was unfortunate enough to get caught. He would never say what it was until AFTER you had taken a bite. At least twice over the years Tom's picture appeared in the local newspaper; both times while he was fishing at his favorite fishing spot.

Tom was a "Jack-of-all-trades". He was a simple man loving all things nature, and yet he was a man of invention, mystery and talent. There will never be another like Tom. Yes, he was definitely "an original".

=====
* Correction was made- Tom served in the United States Navy, entering the service on 14 April 1958 (only 10 days after his 16th birthday. He was in service for NINE years and exited the military on 18 May 1967. His son Franklin was under a year old at the time he finished his life on the water.
