Charles A. DeVenzio
Formerly of Ambridge and Springdale

Charles A. "Coach" DeVenzio, 85, of McCandless, formerly of Ambridge and Springdale, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006. Beloved husband of the late Lora DeVenzio; loving father of Huck DeVenzio of Smyrna, Ga., Dave (Amy) DeVenzio, of Mars, Anne DeVenzio, of Los Angeles, Calif., and the late Dick DeVenzio; cherished grandfather of Lora and Rebecca DeVenzio; dear brother of the late Bill DeVenzio and Helen DeVenzio Miles; and uncle of Bill DeVenzio, of Ohio.

Following graduation from Geneva College (1947), Chuck DeVenzio began a long and distinguished career as a high school teacher and coach. His basketball teams won championships at Springdale, Ambridge, North Allegheny and Charlotte, N.C.

The 1967 Ambridge team is considered by many to be the best high school team in Pennsylvania history. Coach DeVenzio amassed more than 600 career victories, and has been inducted into numerous halls of fame. His greatest impact, however, has been his positive influence on thousands of students, players and friends.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME, Ross, where a memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel.

Interment in Allegheny County Memorial Park is private.
