Steven Lyle Olson , age 71, of New Boston, Texas passed away in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family on Friday February 16, 2019. Steve was born Oct 29, 1947 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Leonard and Lottie Olson. In the winter of 1965, Steve along with his parents and brother made the journey from South Dakota to New Boston, Texas where his father had secured a job at Red River Arsenal. Steve graduated from New Boston High School in 1966. He then enlisted in the US Navy, where he served as a shiplifter on the USS Denver and was honorably discharged. Steve worked as a welder for 28 years at Red River Army Depot , where he retired in 1997 as a Welding Leader in the Machine Fabrication Shop.
Steve lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger. He enjoyed being around people, which is where he spent most of his weekends enjoying the company of his many friends and family. To most he was known as Big O, the life of the party, but the day finally came that he earned a more fulfilling title and to them he will always be Poppa. He loved the outdoors, whether it was fishing with the boys, taking a liesure trip around the lake on the barge or tending his animals on his little piece of paradise. He was preceded in death by his Mother Lottie Olson, his father Leonard, and his brother Harley Olson. He is survived by one sister and brother - in - law, two sons and one daughter - in law. one daughter, six grandchildren , one great grandchild and numerous friends and family members.
