He lived in Anchorage, Alaska for 50 years and chosen King Regent in 2006, a member of the Lions Club in Alaska, and an avid fundraiser for the Special Olympics. He was avid bowler and youth bowling instructor for several years. He sold his LCWilson trucking company and became a school bus driver before he retired for good.
He was a gentle, kindhearted man who loved his Lord, his country, his family and his friends. He never met a stranger and was always eager to lend a helping hand.
Poppy died Friday, February 15, 2019 at his home at the age of 91. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Wilson and his sisters, Jean and Barbara.
Survivors: wife, Thelma Farley Wilson of Poyen; sons,Louis and wife Vera Pohle of Munich, Germany, Fred and wife Mindy Fowler of White Hall, ; daughters, Kathleen and husband Phil Yonkoske of Kingman, Arizona, Dawn Wagner of Anchorage, Alaska, Frances and husband David Nelson of Sheridan, Katie and husband Kirk Crenshaw of Poyen and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 22, 2019 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Winston Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Lindsey-Poyen Cemetery in Poyen. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00 until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Veterans Memorial Association, 40 Walker Lane, Poyen, Arkansas 72128.
